Zone 909: Brother-Zone Management

The biggest nightmare in every friendship, especially ones involving the opposite sex, is when you start to feel attracted to the person. That feeling of love, where a day without the person seems

incomplete.

Mostly it starts as just friends, to friends, good friends, best friends and then the place most guys never dread being placed, but it happens, the brother-zone.

It's the riskiest point in a friendship as it can make or unmake the friendship. Most guys actually give up at this stage but trust you me, you can make it work to your advantage.

In these short steps, I am going to take you through how to manage this critical stage. Mind you, this was not written out of an experience.

1. Readily accept to be 'like-a-brother' to her.

2. Within this period of zoning, she may have guys approaching her. She would tell you about these guys.

3. Be prepared to listen to her at all times. She would at times fall for them and be dating them (very disheartening) but continue to be her brother.

4. When she seeks your advice on her current relationship, advise her like you want the best for her.

5. She would eventually realise you care about her a lot. But maintain your cool. Be a brother.

When you think you can't wait any longer and you have to make your feelings known to her, don't be in haste. Just relax and do these:

6. She would tell you about the problems she is encountering with her boyfriend. BINGO!!!!!!!!! That's what you want right???

7. Don't immediately be a devil. Tell her everything would be OK. You can back it with Bible Scriptures like 1 Corinthians 13. But don't misquote if you ain't sure.

8. While applying step 7, be slowly poisoning her mind. Don't make it obvious. Work like the Hydrochloric Acid in the digestive system. It helps in digestion but can also cause ulcer. It's a gradual process so be patient.

9. She would break up and tell you. Your first reaction should be that of disappointment. Ask who initiated the breakup, and encourage her to stay strong. Say things like, "you would find someone better"

10. Finally, help her get over the relationship while you work your way through to her heart. After six months, ask her out and she would readily accept you.

Brother-zone is a very interesting part of friendship. It takes patience and tolerance to manage it. It is a learning stage where you get to know her better. It also makes you a better person towards her.

It can take many years but remember it is a discipline. In order to pass this course, you should be very disciplined. Be the brother, you want your daughter to secretly have.
